In a startling twist to an ongoing high-profile murder case, the Punjab Police have reached out to dating app Tinder, seeking details of a profile believed to be linked to Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh, who is currently incarcerated under the National Security Act (NSA). The inquiry is part of the investigation into the murder of Sikh activist Gurpreet Singh Hari Nau, a vocal critic of Singh and his radical outfit Waris Punjab De.

The activist was shot dead on October 9, 2024, while returning from a local Gurdwara in Tarn Taran. Known for managing a social media page called Hari Nau Talks, he frequently posted videos and messages condemning extremism and raising concerns about Singh’s growing influence. His family had earlier claimed that Gurpreet received threats from Waris Punjab De supporters in the days leading up to his murder.

Investigators have reportedly discovered a Tinder profile under the name “Amrit Sandhu,” which they suspect may have been operated by or on behalf of Amritpal Singh. Believing the profile may contain crucial digital evidence, police have formally requested Tinder to provide access to location data, message history, IP logs, and account activity dating back several years.

What makes this investigation even more complex is the suspected involvement of Arsh Dalla, a Canada-based gangster-turned-terrorist. Punjab Police believe that Gurpreet’s killing may have been orchestrated by Dalla’s gang, with local shooters already apprehended in connection to the case. Investigators now hope that digital forensics, especially from the Tinder account, can help establish direct or indirect links between Singh’s network and the accused shooters.

Interestingly, Amritpal Singh was elected Member of Parliament from Khadoor Sahib in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections — while still lodged in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail under NSA charges. His meteoric rise and polarizing ideology have remained under scrutiny, especially after his alleged efforts to revive separatist sentiments under the banner of Waris Punjab De.

The case has raised serious concerns about how mainstream digital platforms, including social and dating apps, may be misused for covert communication, radical recruitment, and criminal planning. As of now, Tinder has not responded publicly to the data request. However, law enforcement officials maintain that access to the account may offer vital leads in this politically and ideologically sensitive murder investigation.

The development comes at a time when digital privacy is at the center of public debate, making this probe a litmus test for how tech companies balance user confidentiality with national security imperatives.
