Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing a massive crowd in his Lok Sabha constituency of Varanasi, declared that the Indian Army has avenged the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam through a swift and decisive response named Operation Sindoor. According to Hindustan Times, invoking spiritual symbolism, the Prime Minister said the operation was carried out with “the blessings of Mahadev.”
His remarks come just days after the terror ambush on July 18 that claimed the lives of five Indian Army personnel and left several others injured. The attack, believed to be orchestrated by Pakistan-backed militants, triggered nationwide outrage and demands for immediate retaliation.
Operation Sindoor: A Message of Strength and Faith
PM Modi told the audience, “Pahalgam ke hamle ka jawaab diya ja chuka hai. Mahadev ki kripa se, Operation Sindoor safal raha.” (The attack in Pahalgam has been answered. With Lord Mahadev’s grace, Operation Sindoor has succeeded.)
Although details of the operation remain under wraps, sources suggest that the mission involved targeted strikes against those directly linked to the Pahalgam ambush. Intelligence reports indicate that key handlers and operatives involved in planning the attack have been neutralised in recent counter-terror operations.
The choice of the name “Sindoor” has sparked interest and reflection. In Indian tradition, sindoor is a symbol of sacred commitment and sacrifice – possibly a metaphor for both the blood shed by martyrs and the nation’s promise to protect its citizens.
Sharp Political Messaging: Modi Slams Opposition Bloc
Apart from addressing the counter-terror operation, the Prime Minister also launched a fierce attack on the opposition alliance, INDIA, accusing it of weakening national morale with their defeatist attitude. “These people question every act of bravery by our soldiers, whether it is surgical strikes, Balakot, or now this retaliation. They spread confusion and lie shamelessly,” he said.
He further added that while the world is recognising India’s growing strength, the opposition is busy pulling the country down for political mileage. Modi’s speech blended strong nationalistic tones with spiritual undertones, a pattern that has resonated with his core voter base.
‘Blessings of Mahadev’ in the City of Shiva
Choosing Varanasi—also known as Kashi, the eternal city of Lord Shiva—as the site for this declaration wasn’t coincidental. The Prime Minister has long maintained a deep spiritual connection with the city and its cultural heritage. His reference to Lord Mahadev during a national security-related announcement was seen as a powerful blend of faith and political narrative.
The crowd erupted in chants of “Har Har Mahadev” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” as PM Modi concluded his address, reinforcing the emotional connect his messaging forged with the audience.
Security Forces Lauded for Timely Action
Though there has been no official statement from the Ministry of Defence regarding Operation Sindoor, senior sources confirm that retaliatory operations in south Kashmir have intensified. Security forces have been conducting precision missions in the region, leading to the elimination of several high-profile militants in recent days.
Modi’s open endorsement of the military response sends a strong message to adversaries and signals the Centre’s continued policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism.
Nationalism as a Central Narrative Ahead of Polls
With elections approaching in multiple states, the Prime Minister’s tough stance on national security and his deep connection with religious and cultural identities appear to form the backbone of the BJP’s campaign strategy. His Varanasi address reflected this combination clearly: a call to nationalism delivered through the language of tradition and faith.
Observers believe this speech may resonate not only in Uttar Pradesh but across other poll-bound states where national security and cultural identity are key voter concerns.
