Ukraine’s prime minister, Denys Shmyhal, has tendered his resignation, marking the first formal step toward a broad government reshuffle under President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In a resignation letter posted on Telegram, Shmyhal stated simply, “I am tendering my resignation from the post of the Prime Minister of Ukraine.” His departure clears the path for Zelenskyy to nominate Yuliia Svyrydenko, the current First Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister, as the head of government. If approved by parliament, she will become Ukraine’s second female prime minister and the first to come from an economic leadership background.
Svyrydenko, aged 39, has gained prominence for her role in negotiating a crucial minerals agreement with the United States. Zelenskyy emphasized that her appointment is aimed at renewing the government’s focus on boosting economic resilience, enhancing domestic weapons production, reducing bureaucracy, and implementing reforms to support post-war recovery.
