Toyota has officially unveiled the much-anticipated Land Cruiser FJ, a compact and rugged SUV that combines the brand’s iconic design cues with modern features. Scheduled for a mid-2026 launch in Japan, the FJ Cruiser aims to redefine the entry-level off-road segment, offering enthusiasts a smaller, more maneuverable alternative to the larger Land Cruiser models.

The FJ Cruiser carries the boxy, muscular silhouette that fans of the Land Cruiser series have come to love, reported NDTV. It features two distinctive front-end designs, one with rounded headlights and another with rectangular units, giving buyers a choice between classic and contemporary styling. Measuring 4,574 mm in length, 1,854 mm in width, 1,960 mm in height, and with a wheelbase of 2,580 mm, the vehicle is designed to be agile both on city streets and challenging off-road terrain.

Powering the SUV is a 2.7-liter, four-cylinder petrol engine producing approximately 160 horsepower and 245 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system, ensuring the FJ Cruiser delivers reliable performance across diverse conditions.
Inside, the FJ Cruiser features a modern and functional cabin. A 12.5-inch free-standing infotainment screen is complemented by physical buttons for essential controls, while the chunky steering wheel offers improved grip and handling. The interior strikes a balance between technology and practicality, making it suitable for both daily drives and rugged adventures.

The big question on the minds of Indian SUV enthusiasts is whether Toyota will bring this compact Land Cruiser to India. While the Japanese automaker has hinted at exploring international markets beyond Japan, including India, there is no official confirmation yet. Industry experts suggest that Toyota could consider launching the FJ Cruiser in India, given the growing demand for premium off-road SUVs in the country, but a timeline for such a release remains uncertain.
With its combination of classic Land Cruiser aesthetics, modern engineering, and off-road capabilities, the Toyota FJ Cruiser is poised to attract global attention. For enthusiasts seeking a compact yet capable SUV, it represents a rare blend of style, performance, and versatility. Whether Indian buyers will get a chance to experience this “baby Land Cruiser” remains a question that many will be eagerly watching in the coming months.
