Veteran actor Ram Kapoor has publicly admitted guilt over making inappropriate remarks during a recent press junket for his upcoming web series Mistry. Kapoor’s comments reportedly made members of the media and the film’s marketing team uncomfortable, prompting streaming platform JioCinema to drop him from all ongoing promotional activities. The actor has now responded with a mix of regret and acceptance, saying he is “guilty as charged” and takes full responsibility for his words.
As reported by Indian Express, the incident occurred during a promotional event in Mumbai on June 19. According to eyewitness accounts and sources close to the production, Kapoor interrupted his co-star Mona Singh during media interactions and made several crude and sexually suggestive comments. He allegedly compared the promotional interviews to being “gang-raped by elephants,” asked team members to choose “doggy or missionary” positions, and told one female member that her outfit was “distracting.”
The backlash was swift. JioCinema reportedly instructed the PR agency to remove Kapoor from all interviews, while co-star Mona Singh continued with solo promotional duties. The platform took a firm stance, distancing itself from the actor’s remarks and ensuring that the remainder of the campaign would proceed without him.
In a candid interview, Ram Kapoor admitted to everything he was accused of saying. “Everything I’ve been accused of saying — I have said it. So yes, I am guilty as charged,” he said. He explained that he was in his “bindass” mood and believed he was among friends, assuming that his jokes were being taken in good humour. “If I had got the whiff that they were offended, I would have dealt with it right away,” Kapoor added.
However, Kapoor acknowledged that he misread the room and now understands the impact of his words. He accepted JioCinema’s decision, stating, “I don’t blame the channel at all for what they have done. It was a very big wake-up call for me.”
The actor also shared that the incident has affected his family, particularly his son. “My character has been questioned for the first time in 25 years. My son has been very disappointed. The only thing I can do is apologise and learn,” he said. Kapoor added that he plans to apologise personally to everyone who felt offended by his behaviour.
He also clarified that the comment about the outfit was not intended to single out any one person. “I made the same remark to a male team member as well. I wasn’t trying to offend anyone. I would never make such a comment in front of the media if I thought it was truly inappropriate,” Kapoor said.
Despite his apology, the controversy has sparked a broader conversation in the entertainment industry around professionalism, respect, and boundaries—especially during media events. Kapoor’s casual, outspoken style, once accepted as part of his persona, is now being re-evaluated in light of changing industry standards.
The production house behind Mistry, Banijay Asia, attempted to get Kapoor reinstated for the remaining promotions. However, JioCinema remained firm in its stance, opting to preserve the integrity of the brand and avoid further negative attention.
The fallout from Kapoor’s remarks underscores the growing emphasis on workplace ethics in the Indian entertainment industry. With streaming platforms, production houses, and actors under increasing public scrutiny, accountability is now expected, not optional.
Kapoor’s admission of guilt may help him regain some public trust, but it remains to be seen how the controversy will affect the success of Mistry and his future collaborations with major platforms. The actor’s openness in accepting fault is notable, yet the incident serves as a clear example of how even seasoned professionals must adapt to evolving expectations of conduct.
As Kapoor steps away from the spotlight during the Mistry rollout, his absence will be felt not just in interviews, but also in the conversations around how Bollywood manages on-set behaviour, public accountability, and the evolving boundaries between personal style and professional standards.
