New Maruti Suzuki Escudo SUV Set to Rival Creta, Launching This Diwali

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch a new compact SUV, tentatively named Escudo (codename Y17), positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara. Expected to debut during the Diwali festivities in September–October 2025, the Escudo aims to challenge segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.

Designed for Indian Families

Built on Suzuki’s Global-C platform, the Escudo is anticipated to feature a slightly extended wheelbase compared to the Grand Vitara, offering improved cabin space and boot capacity. The external design is expected to blend SUV cues reminiscent of the international Vitara, but with India-centric styling and enhancements.

Tech and Comfort: Premium Touchpoints

The new Escudo is expected to offer a significant leap in cabin comfort and technology. Likely features include:

  • A large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Fully digital instrument cluster
  • Panoramic sunroof and ventilated front seats in higher variants
  • Wireless phone charging and a more premium dashboard design

Maruti may also include advanced driver-assistance features in top-spec trims, enhancing the SUV’s appeal to tech-savvy buyers.

Powertrain Choices: Flexibility & Efficiency

In line with Maruti Suzuki’s current strategy, the Escudo is expected to be offered with a range of powertrain options:

  • 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 102 hp and 140 Nm, mated to a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission
  • Strong-hybrid variant with approximately 114 hp, mated to an e-CVT transmission
  • CNG option offering around 87 hp for greater fuel economy

A 4WD variant equipped with Suzuki’s AllGrip system is also expected to be offered in select trims, which would be a unique proposition in the segment.

Safety Features: Class-Leading Focus

Maruti Suzuki is likely to equip the Escudo with an array of safety features, including:

  • Six airbags, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control as standard
  • Top trims could feature a 360-degree camera, head-up display, and Level-2 ADAS features
  • The Escudo is expected to aim for a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating

These inclusions will boost its competitiveness in a market that increasingly prioritizes safety.

Pricing & Market Strategy

The Escudo is expected to be retailed through Maruti Suzuki Arena dealerships, giving it a broader market reach compared to Nexa-only models. Pricing is likely to start from around ₹9.75–10 lakh (ex-showroom) for the entry-level petrol variant and could go up to ₹20 lakh for the top-spec hybrid model.

Strategic Significance

By introducing the Escudo, Maruti Suzuki is targeting the heart of India’s SUV market—the compact and midsize segment. The model’s hybrid, CNG, and 4WD options offer more versatility than many of its rivals. Positioned between the Brezza and Grand Vitara, the Escudo is expected to draw customers seeking a balance of features, space, and fuel efficiency.

Launching during Diwali is a strategic move, leveraging the festive season’s strong sales momentum. With premium features, multiple powertrains, and strong brand value, the Escudo could become a major disruptor in its segment.

Final Thoughts

The Maruti Suzuki Escudo SUV promises to be a well-rounded product, offering premium styling, high-end tech, multiple fuel options, and robust safety. It will directly compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and MG Astor. As Maruti’s most versatile SUV yet, the Escudo is poised to capture attention and potentially set new benchmarks in the Indian compact SUV segment.
