The Haryana government has announced plans to develop a Disneyland‑style theme park on approximately 500 acres near Pachgaon Chowk in Manesar, Gurugram. The ambitious project, confirmed by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, aims to transform the National Capital Region (NCR) into a world‑class entertainment destination. The theme park is strategically located along the Kundli‑Manesar‑Palwal Expressway and the Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor.

A Game‑Changer for Tourism and Economy

Described by Haryana’s chief minister as “game‑changing,” the project is expected to drive tourism, create thousands of jobs, and boost economic growth in the region. The plan includes large‑scale infrastructure development around Gurugram, connecting the park to major corporate hubs and well‑developed transport networks. The government is currently engaging with central authorities and investors to finalize approvals.

Manesar: Strategic Location for Mega Project

Manesar has been specifically chosen for its excellent connectivity through the KMP Expressway and Haryana Orbital Rail Corridor. Situated close to Gurugram’s corporate centres and commercial schemes like the upcoming Global City project, Manesar offers an ideal blend of accessibility and investment atmosphere. Infrastructure and market advantages are key considerations in its selection.

Employment and Infrastructure Growth

The theme park is projected to generate a combination of direct and indirect employment, particularly in entertainment, hospitality, transport, and real estate. Anticipated job growth includes seasonal, permanent, and support service roles. This entertainment hub is also expected to catalyse improvements in local roads, public utilities, and ancillary infrastructure.

Historic Echoes and Political Debate

This is not the first time Haryana has discussed such a park: a proposal in 1989 under the INLD government sought to build a Disneyland‑type park on over 28,000 acres, but protests over land acquisition forced its cancellation. The current initiative is markedly leaner—just 500 acres—aiming to avoid past pitfalls. Still, opposition parties claim the project exposes a double standard in government approach to development.

Wider Cultural Initiatives

The theme park project is part of a larger vision to boost Haryana’s cultural and tourism landscape. Plans include internationalising events like the Surajkund Crafts Mela and the Gita Mahotsav, held multiple times a year, to strengthen the state’s identity as a cultural hub and create additional tourist pull.

What Lies Ahead

The proposal is under state and central review, and the government is expected to seek formal approval soon. If cleared, it could potentially draw major global entertainment brands and private investors. The timeline includes securing clearances, finalizing PPP partnerships, and constructing mandatory infrastructure to integrate the park with Gurugram’s urban framework.
