In the wake of escalating protests in Nepal, the Andhra Pradesh government has demonstrated commendable urgency and compassion by launching a dedicated rescue operation to assist Telugu-speaking citizens stranded in Kathmandu, reported Deccan Herald. The unrest, primarily driven by anti-government sentiments and exacerbated by a nationwide curfew, has left numerous travelers in precarious situations.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Andhra Pradesh government established an Emergency Cell at Andhra Bhavan in New Delhi. This initiative aims to coordinate with the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and provide round-the-clock assistance to those affected. Commissioner Arja Srikanth confirmed that approximately 30 Telugu citizens, including former Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridharacharyulu, are currently under the embassy’s care, receiving essential support such as food, shelter, and medical aid.
The establishment of the Emergency Cell underscores the state’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad. Minister Nara Lokesh’s decision to suspend his scheduled visit to Ananthapuram in order to oversee the rescue operations further highlights the seriousness with which the government is addressing the crisis.
