Triumph Motorcycles has officially launched the much-anticipated Thruxton 400 in India, priced at ₹2.74 lakh (ex-showroom). This new addition to the 400cc segment blends retro-inspired café racer design with advanced engineering, setting a new benchmark for accessible performance motorcycles.

Retro Styling with Authentic Café Racer Elements

The Triumph Thruxton 400 draws heavily from its bigger siblings in the Thruxton family, exuding authentic café racer aesthetics. Key highlights include:

  • A signature half bikini fairing and clip-on handlebars
  • Bar-end mirrors for a streamlined look
  • A sculpted fuel tank with unique Triumph badging
  • Blacked-out USD forks and brushed aluminium side panel insets
  • A single-seat setup with a removable rear cowl hiding a pillion seat
  • A distinctive rectangular tail-light that replaces the traditional round unit

These elements make the Thruxton 400 stand out, offering a striking visual identity that merges heritage with modernity.

Performance Tuning for a Sportier Ride

Built on the same platform as the Speed 400, the Thruxton 400 gets performance enhancements that reflect its sportier intent:

  • Powered by a 398cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine
  • Output bumped up to 42 hp at 9,000 rpm, 2 hp more than the Speed 400
  • Torque remains steady at 37.5 Nm
  • Equipped with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch for smoother downshifts

These refinements make the Thruxton 400 more engaging for spirited riders who crave both power and control.

Reworked Chassis and Ergonomics

Triumph has tuned the chassis and ergonomics to suit the Thruxton’s café racer personality:

  • Increased suspension travel to 140 mm for better ride comfort
  • Shorter wheelbase of 1,376 mm enhances agility
  • Lower ground clearance of 158 mm improves cornering confidence
  • Kerb weight has gone up to 183 kg
  • Seat height slightly reduced to 795 mm for improved accessibility

These changes enhance handling and provide a sportier riding stance without compromising comfort.

Modern Features in a Classic Shell

Despite its retro styling, the Thruxton 400 is packed with modern features:

  • Digi-analogue instrument cluster with gear position indicator
  • Dual-channel ABS and traction control for enhanced safety
  • Ride-by-wire throttle ensures precise power delivery

This blend of classic aesthetics and contemporary technology is a key selling point for modern retro enthusiasts.

Color Options and Market Positioning

The Thruxton 400 comes in four striking color options:

  • Lava Red Gloss
  • Pearl Metallic White
  • Phantom Black
  • Metallic Racing Yellow

Each variant features a contrasting racing stripe for added visual flair. Positioned above the Speed 400, the Thruxton 400 fills a niche for riders seeking an affordable café racer with premium styling. Its only comparable rival in terms of aesthetic is the Royal Enfield Continental GT 650, though the two differ significantly in displacement and price.

Price Adjustment for Speed 400

Alongside the Thruxton 400 launch, Triumph also announced a slight price hike for the Speed 400. It now retails at ₹2,50,551 (ex-showroom), up by around ₹4,177. This positions the Thruxton 400 as a premium alternative while keeping both models competitively priced in the sub-500cc category.

Why the Thruxton 400 Matters

  • Affordability meets style: The Thruxton 400 makes the café racer dream accessible to Indian riders
  • Unique segment offering: It stands out with no direct rivals at this price point
  • Performance upgrade: Improved horsepower and suspension enhance the riding experience
  • Modern tech with retro appeal: Combines classic design with current-generation safety and features
