In a distressing development, three Indian nationals from Punjab have gone missing in Iran, with their families alleging kidnapping and ransom demands. The missing individuals have been identified as Hushanpreet Singh from Sangrur, Jaspal Singh from SBS Nagar, and Amritpal Singh from Hoshiarpur. They reportedly vanished shortly after landing in Tehran on May 1, 2025.

The Journey That Turned Perilous

According to reports, the trio had been promised lucrative job opportunities in Australia by a travel agent based in Punjab. The agent arranged for their travel via the Dubai-Iran route, assuring them of accommodation in Iran before proceeding to Australia. However, upon arrival in Tehran, the men reportedly lost contact with their families.

Disturbing Communications

Families of the missing men allege that they received distressing video calls from unknown individuals, showing the men with their hands tied and visible injuries. The abductors have allegedly demanded a ransom of ₹1 crore (approximately $120,000), threatening harm if the amount is not paid. These alarming communications have left the families in a state of anguish and fear.

Diplomatic Efforts Underway

The Indian Embassy in Tehran has confirmed that it is actively working with Iranian authorities to locate the missing individuals. The embassy has urged Iranian officials to prioritize the case and ensure the safety of the Indian nationals. Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the case is being followed up in coordination with relevant judicial authorities, and New Delhi is being kept informed about all developments.

Advisory Against Unauthorized Travel Agents

In light of this incident, the Iranian Embassy in India has issued a strong advisory, warning Indian citizens against being misled by unauthorized travel agents promising overseas employment. The embassy emphasized the dangers posed by illegal travel facilitators and urged travelers to exercise caution and rely only on verified channels when planning trips to Iran.

A Cautionary Tale

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with unverified travel arrangements and the importance of due diligence when seeking employment opportunities abroad. Authorities have reiterated the need for individuals to verify the credentials of travel agents and to be wary of promises that seem too good to be true.

As the investigation continues, the families of the missing men await news, hoping for their safe return. The Indian government has assured that all efforts are being made to resolve the situation promptly.
