Renowned Telugu actor and former legislator Kota Srinivasa Rao, celebrated for his versatile performances across more than 750 films, died at his residence in Hyderabad at the age of 83. His death following a prolonged illness has cast a somber shadow over the Indian film industry.

A large gathering of Tollywood luminaries and political leaders paid their final respects at the actor’s funeral on July 13. Legendary actor Chiranjeevi led the tributes, placing a wreath of red roses on the coffin and solemnly bowing his head, reported India Today.
Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan also attended, offering condolences amid tight security at the family residence. Others present included Brahmanandam, Prakash Raj, Venkatesh Daggubati, and Rana Daggubati, who collectively paid heartfelt tributes.

Kota Srinivasa Rao made his debut in 1978 with the Telugu film Pranam Khareedu, marking the beginning of a legendary career. Over the next five decades, he crafted his reputation as a character actor par excellence, flawlessly portraying villains, comedians, and supporting roles. Notable films include Gaayam, Money, Aha Naa Pellanta, Siva, and many others across languages like Tamil, Kannada, Hindi, and Malayalam.
In 2015, his immense contribution to Indian cinema was recognized with the prestigious Padma Shri.
Political Life and Legacy
Beyond acting, Rao also had a significant career in public service. He served as the MLA from Vijayawada East, Andhra Pradesh, from 1999 to 2004, marking his foray into politics with the BJP. His unique ability to balance diverse roles on screen and off-screen earned him widespread respect.

Colleagues and contemporaries consistently recalled Rao’s dedication to craft, humility, and warmth. Veteran comedian Brahmanandam, visibly moved, described his death as an irreplaceable loss to Telugu cinema. Chiranjeevi, in his emotional tribute, said, “Every film with him was special,” calling the loss “deeply personal and professional.”
