Sardaar Ji 3 Box Office Hits ₹20 Crore Mark Thanks to Record Pakistan Run

Sardaarji 3 Builds Buzz as Fans Relive Diljit Dosanjh’s Iconic Ghostbuster Journey

Sardaar Ji 3 box office collection has crossed the ₹18 crore mark globally and is now inching toward the ₹20 crore milestone, driven by an exceptional performance in Pakistan. The Punjabi horror-comedy, starring Diljit Dosanjh and Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, has become the highest-opening Indian film in Pakistan’s box office history. This success comes despite the film not being released in India due to ongoing controversy and political sensitivities.

Released overseas on June 27, 2025, Sardaar Ji 3 had a powerful opening weekend. According to The Indian Express, the film earned ₹4.32 crore on Day 1, ₹6.71 crore on Day 2, and ₹7.07 crore on Day 3, bringing the worldwide total to ₹18.1 crore in just three days. In Pakistan alone, the movie earned PKR 3.5 crore (approximately ₹3.5 crore) on the first day, breaking the previous record held by Salman Khan’s Sultan, which had earned PKR 3.4 crore.

Due to the ban on Pakistani artists by the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) following heightened India-Pakistan tensions, Sardaar Ji 3 was never released in Indian cinemas. Instead, the makers chose to release it in international markets, where it found widespread acceptance and enthusiasm. Diljit Dosanjh, known for walking the line between regional stardom and Bollywood success, took a calculated risk by focusing on overseas viewers, especially in Pakistan, the UK, Canada, and the US.

Amid the controversy, veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah came out in support of Diljit, writing in a now-deleted social media post that he “stands firmly with Diljit” and that the actor was not responsible for casting decisions, nor did he hold any prejudice. The post sparked mixed reactions within the film industry, with some applauding Shah’s stance and others criticizing his involvement in what they see as a politically charged issue.

The film’s success carries broader implications for cross-border cultural collaboration. Featuring a Pakistani lead actress during a period of heightened political tension challenges long-standing industry taboos. It also signals that audiences, especially in the Punjabi diaspora, are open to art that transcends borders.

From a business perspective, Sardaar Ji 3 has now become the third-highest international opener for a Punjabi film, following Jatt & Juliet 3 and Carry On Jatta 3. The absence of an Indian release may impact its lifetime earnings, but the film’s global reception proves that the market for Punjabi-language cinema is expanding rapidly. For Diljit Dosanjh, who has enjoyed a meteoric rise both in India and abroad, this film cements his position as a global Punjabi icon, even as it complicates his mainstream Bollywood trajectory.

As Sardaar Ji 3 continues to run houseful in major international markets, it is poised to breach the ₹20 crore mark in the coming days. The film’s commercial success, despite the controversy, is a testament to the power of storytelling, diaspora support, and the appeal of cross-border collaboration in cinema.

While the FWICE ban and absence from Indian screens have sparked debate, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have shown that a well-crafted regional film can thrive internationally, even in politically charged times. As the film industry navigates the delicate balance between nationalism and artistic expression, Sardaar Ji 3 stands as a bold and commercially successful example of what’s possible beyond boundaries.
