In comparison, typical FASTag monthly passes cost Rs 340 and require cumbersome documentation. As private vehicles contribute 53% of highway traffic but only 21% of toll revenue, the government sees this scheme as both a fairness-based and strategic move to incentivise digital usage.

As part of the rollout, activation links for the annual pass will go live by July-end. Gadkari emphasised the need for seamless integration with existing FASTag infrastructure – without issuing new tags or requiring additional KYC. He noted that the policy responds directly to widespread public concerns over “toll plazas located within a 60 km range.”
