Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir, has issued a direct threat to target Reliance Industries Limited’s Jamnagar refinery in Gujarat during any future armed conflict with India. According to The Times of India, the remarks mark a shift in rhetoric towards naming specific economic infrastructure as potential targets, in addition to previous nuclear warnings.

Statement at Tampa Dinner

Speaking at a private dinner in Tampa, Florida, Munir reportedly referred to a social media post showing Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani alongside a Quranic verse. He said the post was approved “to show them what we will do the next time,” according to accounts from attendees.

The naming of a civilian economic asset, such as the Jamnagar refinery, is being viewed as an escalation in Pakistan’s public threats towards India.

Additional Warnings on Indus River Dams

During the same event, Munir also issued warnings related to the Indus Waters Treaty. He reportedly stated that if India built a dam on the Indus River while the treaty remained suspended, Pakistan would destroy it with “ten missiles.” He was quoted as saying, “We will wait for India to build a dam, and when it does so, phir 10 missile sey faarigh kar dengey.”

India’s Response

India has condemned both the nuclear and infrastructure threats. The Ministry of External Affairs described Pakistan as an “irresponsible nuclear state” and rejected any attempt at nuclear blackmail. The MEA reaffirmed that India would not be intimidated and would take all necessary steps to ensure national security.

Context of the Event

The speech took place during Munir’s second high-profile visit to the United States in two months. The Tampa dinner was attended by about 120 members of the Pakistani diaspora. It was a formal gathering with mobile devices banned, and no official transcript of the speech was released. Reports are based on accounts from attendees.

The latest remarks come after a series of statements from Pakistan’s military leadership in recent weeks targeting India’s strategic and economic assets.
