MG Motor India has officially launched its first luxury electric MPV, the MG M9, with a starting ex-showroom price of ₹69.90 lakh. This flagship model is aimed at premium MPV buyers, competing with models like the Toyota Vellfire and Kia Carnival, but in a fully electric avatar.
Exclusive Distribution via MG Select Showrooms
The M9 will be available exclusively through MG’s Select premium dealership network, reinforcing the brand’s upscale positioning. Bookings began earlier this year with a refundable token amount of ₹51,000. Deliveries are expected to begin in early August 2025.
Battery, Motor & Range Specifications
The MG M9 is powered by a 90 kWh NMC battery pack, which feeds a front-mounted electric motor producing 245 hp and 350 Nm of torque. MG claims a range of 548 km on a single charge. Fast charging from 10 to 80% using a 160 kW DC charger takes approximately 90 minutes, while full charging via an 11 kW AC home charger requires around 10 hours.
In addition, the M9 supports advanced charging features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) charging, making it the first luxury MPV in India with these capabilities.
Grand Design: Dimensions & Exterior Features
The MG M9 stands at approximately 5,200 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, 1,800 mm tall, with a 3,200 mm wheelbase—making it larger than most rivals in the MPV space. The design includes premium elements such as LED DRLs, split headlamps, power-sliding doors, a powered tailgate, and 19-inch self-healing Continental tyres.
Premium Lounge-Class Cabin
Inside, the M9 offers a cognac brown leather-suede cabin, complete with a 12.23‑inch touchscreen, 7‑inch digital instrument cluster, JBL audio system, wireless smartphone connectivity, and multiple ambient lighting modes.
The second-row “Presidential” captain seats are the main highlight: they offer 16-way power adjustment, massage, heating and cooling, ottoman leg rests, and micro‑displays on the seatbacks. A “boss mode” function allows the front passenger seat to slide forward for enhanced rear legroom.
The M9 is available in 7- and 8‑seater configurations, with AC vents and USB ports for all rows. It offers up to 945 litres of boot space and even includes a 55 litre front trunk (frunk).
Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety is a major focus of the M9, with Level 2 ADAS features such as adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking. Other safety tech includes:
- Seven airbags
- Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
- Electronic parking brake with auto-hold
- 360-degree surround camera
- ISOFIX child seat mounts
- All-wheel disc brakes
The vehicle has received 5-star crash ratings under Euro NCAP and ANCAP, while Indian Bharat NCAP testing is still pending.
Competitive Positioning in Indian Market
With pricing in the ₹65–70 lakh range, the MG M9 becomes the most affordable luxury electric MPV in India. This undercuts the Toyota Vellfire and Hyundai Staria (if introduced), and offers a compelling premium EV choice for corporate buyers, HNIs, and chauffeur-driven users.
The M9’s launch strategy, including limited availability through MG Select outlets, aims to cultivate exclusivity in the growing electric luxury segment.
Final Thoughts
The MG M9 electric MPV is a bold step forward in India’s premium EV space. Offering high-end luxury, cutting-edge tech, and long-range practicality, it sets a new benchmark for chauffeur-driven electric vehicles. With deliveries set to begin in August 2025, the M9 could become a game-changer in the luxury mobility segment.
