The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has temporarily lifted its ban on actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, allowing him to continue working on the much-anticipated war drama Border 2. The move follows a direct appeal from producer Bhushan Kumar, who urged the federation to permit Diljit to complete his role in the film, which is already nearing completion.
Ban Lifted… But Only for Border 2
FWICE president B.N. Tiwari confirmed that the ban has been revoked only for Border 2, not for any future projects involving the actor. As reported in The Times of India, Tiwari explained that Bhushan Kumar had requested an exception as the film is almost 85% complete and Diljit has already shot most of his portions. The federation agreed to this on compassionate and professional grounds but made it clear that the broader non-cooperation directive against Dosanjh still stands once this film wraps.
Ashoke Pandit Affirms Non-Cooperation Will Continue
Film producer and activist Ashoke Pandit echoed the federation’s stance. He stated that while Diljit can complete Border 2, any producer casting him in upcoming projects should be aware of FWICE’s ongoing non-cooperation policy. He warned that future associations with the actor could lead to financial and logistical challenges for film units.
Diljit Sets Rumours to Rest with BTS Update
Amid growing speculation over his exit from the project, Diljit Dosanjh shared a behind-the-scenes video from the set of Border 2. In the video, he is seen in full Indian Air Force uniform, preparing for a scene. He captioned it simply as “BORDER 2,” signaling that he is still very much part of the cast and production is underway.
Context: Sardaar Ji 3 Controversy
The original ban on Diljit stemmed from his involvement in Sardaar Ji 3, a film that features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir. Although the film released overseas on June 27, it was withheld from Indian screens in the wake of heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack. Citing its standing policy of not allowing collaborations with Pakistani artists, FWICE imposed a non-cooperation ban on Dosanjh for associating with a cross-border project.
What’s Next for Diljit and the Industry?
For now, Diljit remains a key cast member in Border 2, alongside Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty. Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, the film is slated for a Republic Day weekend release in January 2026. However, the industry has been put on notice: unless a formal revocation is issued, casting Diljit in new projects could risk industry-wide non-cooperation, production hurdles, and public backlash.
The decision to grant this one-time exemption reflects the industry’s attempt to balance creative commitments with political and cultural sensitivities. It also signals that, while Diljit Dosanjh remains one of India’s most bankable stars, his future in Bollywood may depend on how this standoff evolves in the coming months.
