The Amarnath Yatra 2025 began on July 3 under the shadow of heightened security concerns, especially after the recent attack in Pahalgam. CRPF DIG Sudhir Kumar explained that a comprehensive, multi-layered security setup has been put in place to protect the pilgrims during the 38-day pilgrimage to the sacred Amarnath cave shrine in Jammu and Kashmir.
Massive Deployment and Technology Integration
According to The Indian Express, close to 58,000 security personnel from CAPF, CRPF, and local police forces have been deployed to safeguard the pilgrimage route. These include 50,000 CRPF jawans, bomb detection squads, sniffer dog teams, and Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) stationed along critical junctions. In addition to manpower, drone surveillance, facial recognition cameras, metal detectors, and AI-based scanning tools are being used to monitor the movement of yatris and detect threats early.
Mock drills and simulation exercises are also being conducted routinely, testing the coordination between multiple agencies. From base camps in Jammu to the Baltal and Pahalgam routes, every point of entry is under close watch.
No-Fly Zones and Airspace Restrictions
Following the Pahalgam attack, the Jammu and Kashmir administration declared all pilgrimage routes as “No-Fly Zones.” The use of drones, balloons, or any airborne surveillance gadgets by civilians has been strictly prohibited. This airspace restriction will remain in place until August 10 to prevent any attempts at aerial tracking or disruption.
The order also covers areas around the base camps and key checkpoints along the yatra route. Surveillance balloons by the forces, however, are being used strategically to ensure continuous oversight.
Community Vigilance and Convoy System
Authorities have advised pilgrims to move strictly in escorted convoys and avoid solo travel. Local communities and volunteers are also being sensitized to report any suspicious activity. The administration has issued detailed travel advisories, and all yatris are required to register before embarking on the pilgrimage.
Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor has assured full protection for devotees and appealed for peaceful participation. States like Punjab have also contributed significantly, deploying nearly a thousand police personnel to assist in maintaining law and order along the route.

In an exclusive media interaction, CRPF DIG Sudhir Kumar shared that security for the Amarnath Yatra is being managed “layer by layer.” He detailed how each base camp undergoes physical screening, while drone monitoring and QRTs remain on standby round the clock. Regular coordination meetings between CRPF, army units, and the J&K police ensure seamless communication and timely response.
The DIG emphasized that the forces are fully prepared for any eventuality and that rehearsals for rescue, evacuation, and anti-sabotage scenarios are part of daily operations.

Despite security challenges, the spirit of the yatra remains undeterred. Thousands of pilgrims have already begun their journey, carrying their faith through the snow-laden paths. The government, on its part, is working tirelessly to ensure that spiritual devotion is not marred by fear or disruption.
Devotees are encouraged to follow official advisories, travel only through authorized routes, and cooperate with security forces. From convoy protection to facial recognition at checkpoints, the systems in place aim to offer a smooth and safe experience for every yatri.
