A controversy has erupted in Himachal Pradesh after a woman from Chamba district accused BJP MLA Hans Raj of harassment and intimidation. The legislator has strongly denied the allegations, saying the woman is “like my daughter” and that the claims are politically motivated, reported News 18.
According to the woman, she had filed a complaint last year accusing the MLA of sending inappropriate messages and asking for explicit photographs. She claimed that no significant action was taken by authorities at the time, prompting her to post a video on social media reiterating her accusations.
In her latest statement, the woman alleged that she and her family were being defamed and threatened for refusing to withdraw her earlier complaint. She warned that if anything happened to her or her family, the MLA should be held responsible. She also alleged that the legislator’s wife had threatened her, claiming that Hans Raj would “settle scores” once he attained a ministerial position.
Hans Raj, who represents the Churah constituency, responded through a video message, dismissing the charges as baseless and malicious. He said that similar allegations had been investigated earlier and found to be untrue. The MLA claimed that the renewed accusations were part of a conspiracy to damage his image and create unrest in the region.
He further stated that the issue was being used to “malign his reputation” and hinder ongoing development projects in his constituency. The BJP leader has demanded a detailed police probe into the matter and announced his intention to file a defamation case to protect his name.
