A tragic incident unfolded in California when a 26-year-old man from Barah Kalan village in Jind district, Haryana, was shot dead after confronting an individual for public urination.  According to The Times of India, the victim, identified as Kapil, was working as a security guard on duty at the time of the confrontation, local authorities confirmed.

Journey and Background

Kapil, the only son of a farming family, had arrived in the United States in 2022 after undertaking a perilous journey through what is known as the “donkey route”. This route involved trekking through dense forests in Panama and scaling the Mexico–US border wall, a journey that cost his family nearly Rs 45 lakh. Although he was briefly detained upon arrival, he was later released following legal processes and had since been living in California.

Incident Details

According to local sources, the incident occurred when Kapil objected to a man urinating outside the premises where he was stationed as a security guard. An argument broke out, and in response, the man shot him dead on the spot. News of Kapil’s death reached his family through a relative in the US, leaving the village in deep shock and grief.

The Family’s Plea

Kapil’s family has appealed to government authorities for help in bringing his body back to India. Villagers have decided to meet with the Deputy Commissioner of Jind to ensure that the necessary arrangements are made for repatriation. The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the risks faced by migrants who take dangerous routes in search of better opportunities abroad.
