A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan was shot dead outside his home in Kheri Damkan village early Monday, days after an altercation during the Kanwar Yatra. Three local men have been arrested in connection with the killing, while two key suspects remain at large reported India Today.

Brawl During Pilgrimage Turns Deadly

Krishan Kumar, aged around 30, had returned on leave to be with his wife after she delivered a baby at a medical college in nearby Khanpur Kalan. He had participated in the Kanwar pilgrimage in Haridwar where, according to police, he engaged in a heated spat with three youths from his village – identified as Ajay, Anand (also known as Pahiya), and Nishant. The disagreement reportedly involved both groups who had gone to bring the ‘kanwar’ back to their village.

Late-Night Call Results in Fatal Gunfire

Shortly before 1 a.m., the same men are believed to have lured Krishan out of his house under the pretext of discussion. The moment he stepped outside, he was shot multiple times. Krishan collapsed at his doorstep and was rushed to a hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Manhunt Underway

Krishan’s family identified the three suspected assailants and filed a First Information Report (FIR). Police have arrested Sagar—whose car was reportedly used in the crime—along with Mohit (who was allegedly entrusted with an unlicensed firearm) and Praveen alias Mendhak. The primary suspects, Nishant and Ajay, remain fugitives. Four investigative teams, including CIA and Gohana Sadar units, have been deployed to track them down.

Grief and Community Tensions

Krishan had served in the CRPF for about 11 years and was home to meet his newborn son. He is survived by his wife—still hospitalized—and his six-year-old elder son. The tragic killing has intensified concerns over rising communal tension and violence tied to religious pilgrimages.

Local authorities are treating the murder as a premeditated act born out of personal enmity stemming from the earlier clash during the Kanwar Yatra. The police stressed that motive and full context will emerge after the arrest and interrogation of the absconding suspects.
