In a major leap toward digital governance, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with Delhi CM and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, inaugurated the state’s first Easy Registry portal in Mohali on May 26, 2025. Designed to make property transactions hassle-free and corruption-free, the platform promises to modernize and streamline land registration across Punjab.
The Easy Registry system allows users to complete the entire property registration process online – right from uploading documents and scheduling appointments to receiving approvals and making payments. Citizens can now choose any sub-registrar office within their district to register property, regardless of its location. This flexibility is expected to save both time and effort.
One of the key highlights of the system is its user-friendly design. Applicants receive real-time WhatsApp notifications at every step of the process – document submission, approval, fee payment, and appointment confirmation. The government has also set a 48-hour turnaround time for completing the registration process, significantly faster than the previous system.
The portal includes helpful features such as “Draft My Deed” and “Calculate My Fees,” which allow users to self-generate legal documents and estimate charges without relying on intermediaries. Moreover, trained Seva Sahayaks will assist citizens in completing the process, ensuring inclusivity for those who may not be digitally savvy.
In an effort to make the system more transparent and accessible, traditional legal terms like jamabandi, khasra, and khatauni are being replaced with simplified, easy-to-understand language in Punjabi. This linguistic shift is expected to benefit a large segment of the population unfamiliar with legal jargon.
Speaking at the launch, CM Mann warned against corruption, stating that any deliberate obstruction by officials would be scrutinized and penalized. Deputy commissioners have been empowered to review such cases and take immediate disciplinary action.
Arvind Kejriwal hailed the portal as a pioneering step that could serve as a model for the rest of the country. He emphasized that ending the decades-old nexus of corruption in land registration was long overdue and praised Punjab for taking the lead in citizen-centric digital reforms.
The Easy Registry portal will be rolled out across all districts in Punjab by August 1, 2025, marking a milestone in the state’s journey towards efficient, transparent, and people-first governance.
