Kolkata B-School Rape Case Takes Murky Turn: Father Alleges Police Forced Daughter to File FIR

The high-profile rape case involving a student from a top Kolkata B-school has taken an unexpected turn. Days after the 22-year-old woman alleged sexual assault and filed an FIR, her father has now claimed that there was no rape — and that the police pressured his daughter into making the allegation, reported The Times of India.

The father told reporters that his daughter’s injuries were caused by a fall from an auto-rickshaw and not by any assault. He further alleged that his daughter, who was found unconscious near the college, was in a state of confusion and trauma when police recorded her statement.

Family Contradicts Official Version

According to the family, the student never mentioned sexual assault in her initial conversations. They allege that authorities moved swiftly to file an FIR without giving her enough time to process the situation. The father now wants the case withdrawn and says the family may seek legal recourse if necessary.

Police Stand by Medical Evidence

Kolkata Police, however, have refuted claims of coercion. Officials said the FIR was based on medical examination reports conducted after the student was admitted to a hospital. The reports, they assert, pointed to evidence of sexual assault. They also claimed that the woman herself gave a verbal and written complaint at the time, which is now part of the case record.

A senior police official stated that they are treating the matter with sensitivity but will follow legal procedure as per standard protocol.

Investigation Under New Lens

With the father’s claims now public, the case is entering uncertain territory. Police sources say that CCTV footage from the route the student took, call data, and location tracking are all being reviewed again to ascertain the sequence of events. Questions are being raised about how the student ended up injured near the college and what transpired in the hours leading up to her discovery.

Officers confirmed that the accused named in the FIR is still under investigation but said no arrests have been made so far.

Silence from the College

The B-school at the centre of the case, one of the most reputed management institutes in eastern India, has not issued an official statement yet. While internal sources suggest the administration is closely monitoring developments, students and faculty remain tight-lipped.

Public Reaction Mixed

The case has sparked divided reactions. Some believe the father’s version and worry about a possible miscarriage of justice. Others, including women’s rights activists, caution against making premature judgments, especially when trauma victims may initially withhold or retract details out of fear, shame, or social pressure.

Legal experts have also weighed in, noting that while a recanting statement complicates matters, it doesn’t nullify the need for a full investigation. They urge caution against victim-blaming or dismissing serious allegations without due process.
