In a high-voltage operation near the Delhi–Haryana border, gangster Romil Vohra was killed in a fierce Delhi Police encounter that also involved Haryana’s Special Task Force (STF). The 20-year-old, a known associate of the Kala Rana gang, had a ₹3.1 lakh reward on his head and was wanted for murder and extortion across multiple states.

Delhi Police Encounter Ends the Trail of a Wanted Gangster

According to police, the encounter took place in the early hours of June 24, near Prem Bari Bridge in the Dera Mandi area of South Delhi. Acting on specific intelligence, a joint team of Delhi Police Special Cell and Haryana STF tried to intercept Vohra as he was travelling on a motorcycle. When asked to surrender, he reportedly opened fire at the police.

In the exchange of bullets, gangster Romil Vohra sustained serious injuries. Two officers — Sub-Inspector Praveen Kumar from Delhi Police and Sub-Inspector Rohan Kumar from Haryana STF — were also wounded. Vohra was declared dead at the hospital. The Delhi Police encounter is being hailed as a major success in the ongoing crackdown on organised crime in North India.

Wanted for Murder and Extortion: Vohra’s Violent Past

Romil Vohra was wanted for murder and extortion in multiple high-profile cases. In December 2024, he was involved in the brutal killing of three liquor businessmen in Yamunanagar, Haryana — a crime that shocked the region and exposed the deep reach of organised gangs in the liquor trade. More recently, in June 2025, he was believed to be one of the shooters responsible for the highway murder of liquor contractor Shantanu near Kurukshetra.

His actions were reportedly carried out on orders from gang kingpin Virender Pratap alias Kala Rana, who operates from abroad. Vohra was not just a shooter — he played a key role in expanding the gang’s extortion racket and was instrumental in recruiting other youth into criminal networks.

Inter-State Operation Brings Closure

The operation that led to Romil Vohra being killed was the result of weeks of coordination between Delhi Police and Haryana STF. Police sources confirmed that Vohra had been evading arrest by constantly changing locations between NCR, Haryana, and Punjab.

His death follows the arrest of ten of his associates involved in the Shantanu murder case. Authorities have confirmed that this is part of a broader strategy to dismantle the Kala Rana gang and cut off its operations on Indian soil.

Gang Threatens Retaliation

In a disturbing post-encounter development, social media accounts linked to another gang member based abroad, Bhanu Rana, threatened retaliation for gangster Romil Vohra’s killing. Law enforcement agencies have responded by tightening surveillance, monitoring digital communications, and seeking international cooperation to trace foreign-based gang handlers.

Youth in Crime: A Worrying Pattern

That Romil Vohra was killed at just 20 years of age draws attention to the disturbing trend of minors and youth being lured into crime syndicates. Vohra had reportedly dropped out of school in his teens and was influenced by local criminal elements early on. Experts point out that poverty, peer pressure, and lack of opportunities make young individuals vulnerable to such criminal recruitment.

Police and civil society organisations are urging for a parallel focus on rehabilitation, skill training, and education — especially in gang-prone regions — to prevent more youngsters from falling into crime.

A Message from Law Enforcement

With gangster Romil Vohra killed in a Delhi Police encounter, senior police officials have stated that this operation sends a strong message to other wanted criminals. The crackdown on extortion networks and contract killings is expected to intensify in the coming months, particularly against gangs operating under the patronage of overseas masterminds.

This decisive action, authorities believe, will restore public confidence and reaffirm that those wanted for murder and extortion will not be allowed to escape justice.
