Google has officially released Android 16, with the update now available on Pixel devices and scheduled to expand to other smartphones later this year.

This is one of the earliest full-version Android rollouts, bringing notable improvements across the board—from user experience to security and multitasking.

Top Features in Android 16

Smarter Notifications

  • Live Updates: You can now track rides, deliveries, and other real-time activities right from your lock screen or notification panel.
  • Auto-Grouping: Android 16 intelligently clusters notifications from the same app to keep your alerts clean and organized.

Improved Hearing Aid Support

  • Phone-as-Mic for LE Audio Hearing Aids: Use your phone’s microphone to enhance clarity during calls, especially in loud environments.
  • Integrated Audio Settings: Adjust volume and mic input settings for hearing aids directly within Android’s system settings.

Enhanced Security

  • A new Advanced Protection mode introduces a one-tap system to block phishing, suspicious downloads, scam calls, and more. This feature is designed for high-risk users but available to everyone.

Desktop-Level Multitasking

  • Desktop Windowing (Beta): Tablet and large-screen phone users can now open, resize, and move multiple app windows, much like a desktop interface. This feature is still in early rollout stages.

More to Come in 2025

Later this year, Android 16 is expected to receive a full Material You design refresh, introducing smoother animations, richer colors, and improved gesture interactions.

Additional updates will include:

  • HDR screenshots
  • Adaptive refresh rate control
  • Improved identity verification
  • Embedded photo picker
  • Upgraded Health Connect integration

Device Availability

Android 16 is currently rolling out via OTA updates to Pixel 6 and newer devices. Other smartphone brands like Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and OPPO are expected to receive the update in the coming months.
