A horrifying accident on the Hyderabad–Bengaluru highway in the early hours of Friday turned a routine overnight journey into a nightmare. A private sleeper bus operated by Kaveri Travels caught fire near Chinnatekur village in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, leaving at least 20 people dead and several others injured, reported The Times of India.
The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m. when the bus, carrying over 40 passengers from Hyderabad to Bengaluru, reportedly collided with a motorcycle on National Highway 44. The impact caused the bike to get trapped under the vehicle, igniting the fuel tank and triggering a massive blaze that spread within seconds. Most passengers were asleep and had little time to react.
Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene. The fire engulfed the bus almost instantly, with flames shooting through the sleeper cabin. The main exit door was jammed after the collision, forcing passengers to smash windows and crawl out to save themselves. Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot, attempting to rescue those trapped inside as fire tenders arrived to douse the flames.

One survivor recounted waking up to screams and heat as the flames spread. “I could barely breathe. The door was jammed, and we broke the glass to get out,” he said. Another injured passenger said the bus was moving at high speed and that the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.
